Me and My Miele® (rhymes with “Sheila”)

I will be the first to admit that when we brought in the Miele line of vacuums to Cole Hardware, I thought the hundreds-of-dollars price tag was a little questionable. But one trip to my basement storage area, a graveyard of vacuums past, got me thinking. Like a police lineup, there they were right in front of my eyes: canister styles, uprights I could never find bags for, no-bag models that needed emptying constantly . . . you get the picture. All that wasted money I could have spent on shoes!

Vacuuming on a daily basis is certainly not my style—I’m far too busy to deal with dust and am lucky if I can muster up the energy to eat something other than cereal for dinner after work. My next-door neighbors, on the other hand, vacuum daily—you can set your clock to when they will click on that Hummer that runs through their apartment each night.

But with out-of-town company on the way this summer, I was in dire need of a new vacuum. I broke down and bought the Compact C1 model—a well-priced canister sucker-upper at $399.99. (Sku 123123) My life is changed forever! I vacuumed my entire apartment with ease—those dust bunnies under the bed had no idea what they were in for. The long arm of this vacuum allowed me to suction under everything without having to move any furniture. The attachments for every nook and cranny performed their magic.

I’m not impressed easily, but I am in awe of my Miele. The whisper-hush volume fooled me into thinking it wasn’t working, until I realized it was just me not hearing it. (We’ve all heard that before, haven’t we? “It’s not you, it’s me.” In this case it was true!)

Do I have any regrets? Sure I do. I wish I hadn’t been so conservative and had bought the $1099.99 Marin model with the HEPA filter instead! (Sku 123011) Now if I could just get my neat neighbors to invest in a Miele.

Unlike an unreliable relationship, I know my Miele will be there every Saturday night for years to come: they’re built to last 20 years! Should you need to reach me, I’ll be vacuuming. But I’ll be able to hear my phone, thanks to my Miele.
